Product Description

Widely considered to be a definitive work on how U.S. foreign policy is made, THE POLITICS OF UNITED STATES FOREIGN POLICY uses three levels of analysis that demonstrate how government, society, and the historical-global environment all impact policymaking. Appropriate for those professors who want to teach a course that emphasizes process, the text blends substance, history, and theory in a lively narrative that is comprehensive, accessible, and informative. This new fifth edition is streamlined and updated and includes coverage of the 2008 elections, the new Congress, the global economic crisis, updates on the Iraq War, and the Obama administration's foreign policy.

Editorial Reviews

Review
"The detailed analysis of the institutional environment and policymaking process make this book superior to any other text on the market in this regard." --Matthew C. Zierler, Michigan State University.

"One clear strength of the book is the way it integrates theory with practice--not only by including chapter 10 but also by references to conceptual and theoretical material throughout the narrative. This makes the text useful for students because they can begin to make some of these connections for themselves and it enhances its use as a teaching tool." --John Creed, College of Charleston

This textbook is fine...but not recommended for anyone who already possesses a good amount of knowledge on the subject. It is quite rudimentary and repeats itself A LOT!!!
